Promoting tourism Son La strategy


Seminar on "Promoting Son La's Tourism" in Ha Noi

On Dec 24 2011, Son La People's Committee coordinated with the Viet Nam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) to hold a seminar on "Promoting Son La's Tourism".
The seminar was held in Ha Noi with the attendance of Deputy Head of the Northwest Steering Committee, Mr. Hoang Tri Thuc; Deputy Director General of VNAT, Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong; Deputy Chairman of Son La People's Committee Mr. Bui Duc Hai; representatives of relevant ministries; ESRT project; JICA organization (Japan); and leaders of Son La's Departments and travel businesses in Ha Noi....
In 2011, Son La Province welcomed more than 410 thousand of arrivals including 37.5 thousand international ones with the revenue of VND 210 billions. The province is focusing on developing tourist products such as cultural, ecological, leisure fulfill the target of welcoming 1 million arrivals in 2015.
Deputy Director of Institute for Tourism Development Researcher Prof. Phạm Trung Luong said the province should encourage tour operators to offer community-based tours to Son La as well as call for the support of int'l organizations in training and developing tourism human resource.
At the seminar, Director of Environmentally and Socially Responsible Tourism project (ESRT), Mr. Vu Quoc Tri committed to support in training community capacity to develop provincial tourism.
With available tourism potential, Son La should develop typical tourist products and build a website to update provincial culture, sports and tourism information to attract more tourists. In addition, the Province should also focus on developing tourism in Moc Chau based on unique potential as tea and dairy, seasonal flowers....
To conclude the seminar, Deputy Director General of VNAT, Mr. Cuong stressed the VNAT will coordinated with Son La to complete documents and procedures of project "Moc Chau tourism development planning 2012" to report to the MoCST to submit for the Prime Minister's approval; as well as support promoting provincial tourism within the country and oversea, all for support of organizations and business to help Son La improve management capacity and develop tourist products.
